BizMantra Seminar on “Budget 062/063 Tax and VAT Implication for Export Business”: BizMantra is organising a Seminar on "Budget 062/63 Tax and VAT Implication for Export Business" on 9th September, 2005 in Radisson Hotel. It welcomes participation from all the entrepreneurs and managers involved in export business.

We are fortune to have Dr. Chandramani Adhikari as the resources person for this seminar. Dr. Adhikari is a renowned expert in tax management. A senior tax officer in Inland Revenue Department (IRD), he is the only PH.D in income tax and tax management.

We will also have the benefit of presence from a representative from IRD for the question and answer (Q&.A) session.

BizMantra Workshop in Association with NYEF (16 Aug '05): BizMantra is going to organize its sixth promotional workshop inassociation with Nepal Young Entrepreneur Forum (NYEF). The workshop is scheduled to be held on the 2nd of September, 2005. The Participants of this workshop will be the members of NYEF.

Fifth BizMantra Promotional Workshop Held (3 Jul '05): BizMantra, SME Toolkit Project, Nepal, organised its fifth Promotional Workshop in association with Handicraft Association of Nepal (HAN) today at Radisson Hotel. The workshop was conducted for half - day.The participants of this workshop were the members of HAN.

The BizMantra Promotional Workshop aimed at demonstrating the effective use of BizMantra for developing the capacity of entrepreneurs of Nepal involved in the handicraft sector. The participants were given a brief overview of the project as well.The participants were made familiar with the articles, forms, interactive tools and resources of seven core business areas in BizMantra: Business Planning, Legal and Insurance, Accounting and Finance, Human Resource, Marketing, Operation and Technology.     

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Trishakti Joshi, Executive Director of BizMantra said, "Entrepreneurs involved in the handicraft sector has played a great role in the economic development of the country. BizMantra is here toassist the managers and entrepreneurs in the handicraft sector with better business process."

Mr. Pancha Ratna Shakya, President of HAN shared, "This worshop has been organised in order to improve the capacity of the members of HAN. BizMantra has emerged as a new concept to train and provide consultancy to the SMEs. I believe using BizMantra will even help the non-business educator to get knowledge about different business aspects. He stressed the member participants to use BizMantra and be in contact with the BizMantra secretariat to improve their business."

About 70 HAN members participated in the workshop and found it informative and fruitful. The workshop was interactive and the participants also put forth their suggestions to make BizMantra more informative and SME friendly.

Mr. Bikash Ratna Dhakwa, Vice-President, HAN thanked the BizMantra Team for organising the workshop, the media for disseminating the information and the members for their active participation.

BizMantra Workshop (28 Jun '05): BizMantra will organise its next workshop in association with the Handicraft Association of Nepal (HAN) on Sunday, 3rd of July, 2005. About fifty memebers of HAN will participate in the workshop. The subject matter of the workshop will contain an overview of BizMantra and its contents and  demonstration of the effective use of the toolkit for developing the capacity of local business. It also aims at  getting feedback from the participants to make BizMantra more useful and relevant to local businesses.

1st South Asia Partners Meeting (26 May '05): The first South Asia Partners Meeting on the SME Toolkit was held in Thimpu, Bhutan. The participanting countries were Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Two members from Nepal participated in the meeting. They gave presentation on BizMantra, SME Toolkit Project in Nepal. The partners shared their experiences on the Project and discussed the future course of action.

Fourth BizMantra Promotional Workshop Held: BizMantra, SME Toolkit Project, Nepal, held its fourth Promotional Workshop in association with Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) on Friday, 6th of May, '05 at Radisson Hotel. The participants of this workshop were the young entrepreneurs of TAAN, who are the members of TAAN Young Entrepreneurs of Nepal (TYEF). Besides this participation privilege was also given to other entrepreneurs who were constantly in touch with BizMantra.
The Promotional Workshop aimed at demonstrating the effective use of BizMantra for developing the capacity of young entrepreneurs of Nepal who were involved in the trekking field. The participants were made familiar with the articles, forms, interactive tools and resources of seven core business areas in BizMantra: Business Planning, Legal and Insurance, Accounting and Finance, Human Resource, Marketing, Operation and Technology.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Trishakti Joshi, Executive Director of BizMantra said, 'Tourism is the back bone of the economy. Like other business sectors this sector if managed properly can attain its target. BizMantra is here to assist the managers and entrepreneurs of the tourism sector with better business process."

Mr. Ashim Pradhan, Member of TYEF shared that such promotional workshop provides a forum to get views and ideas to boost up one's company.

Mr. Bishwesh Shrestha, Executive member of TAAN, opined, 'Management functions are inevitable but often neglected. This is the right time to correct our past mistakes. Learning is a never ending process, so, TAAN and TYEF will keep in touch with BizMantra for future assistance as well.'

The workshop was conducted successfully with 30 participants from TYEF.

Lobbing for Trading House Concept:The BizMantra Team met the members of Export Council of Nepal (ECON) and cleared the problems they had dealing with VAT rules. The members of ECON also felt that there are certain impracticalities regarding the existing VAT rules.

Following this meeting BizMantra and ECON jointly went to the VAT office and met Mr. Avanindra K Shrestha, Director General, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Mr. Heem Bahadur Rawal, Executive Member & Chairman, Revenue Committee and lobbied for Export Trading House Concept. This concept states that all the products sold to the export houses would be considered as exports, thus no VAT will be applicable for such transactions.

Third BizMantra Promotional Workshop held: BizMantra, SME Toolkit Project, Nepal, held its third Promotional Workshop in association with Women Entrepreneurs' Association of Nepal (WEAN) on Sunday, 13th March, '05 at Hotel Blue Star. The participants of this workshop were the memebers of WEAN.

The Promotional Workshop aimed at demonstrating the effective use of BizMantra for developing the capacity of women entrepreneurs of Nepal. The participants were made familiar with the articles, forms, interactive tools and resources of seven core business areas in BizMantra.

Mr. Trishakti Joshi, Executive Director, BizMantra, welcoming the participants and the team stated the need of better business practices and modern management in small and medium enterprises.

Speaking on the occassion Ms. Chhaya Sharma, President, WEAN, expressed that business information toolkit like BizMantra is very useful, needful and informative for the SMEs. She requested the member participants of WEAN to use BizMantra to bring in better business process.

Second BizMantra Promotional Workshop held: BizMantra, SME Toolkit Project, Nepal, held its second Promotional Workshop in association with Export Council of Nepal (ECON) on Sunday, 13th Feb, '05 at Hotel Blue Star. The participants of this workshop were the memebers of ECON.

The Promotional Workshop aimed at demonstrating the effective use of BizMantra for developing the capacity of export trading houses and getting feedback and suggestions from the participants to make the project and the product more useful, helpful and relevant for them.

Mr. Trishakti Joshi, Executive Director, BizMantra, welcoming the participants and the team stated the need of better management practices in small and medium enterprises. He shed light on specific forms and information available in BizMantra for export business provided by Inland Revenue Department (IRD). He further shared that BizMantra is working in close coordination with IRD to provide updated information to the SMEs.

Mr. Yagya Narayan Gupta, Immediate Past President, ECON, stressed on the need and importance of such toolkit for the exporters to strengthen their competence, knowledge and business.

To add value to the workshop the participants were distributed BizMantra kit at the registration desk which enclosed brochures of BizMantra, Shuvha SYDREC, Solutions Consultant, Bank of Kathmandu, Shikhar Insurance; Metro City Paper (bitarak.com); BizMantra CD; Table of Contents of BizMantra; Information on Refund of VAT and Product Evaluation Form. Further the participants were also given the information detail of the contact person for Refund of VAT.

BizMantra Holds its First Promotional Workshop (30 Dec '04): The Promotional Workshop on BizMantra, SME Toolkit Project, Nepal, was organized by BizMantra in association with Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI). The workshop was inaugurated by Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Minister of State for Local Development.

Press Release:BizMantra - SME Toolkit Project, Launched in Nepal (23 Nov '04): Elite Networks and Communications Pvt. Ltd., managing partner of SME Toolkit Project Nepal has launched a web based business toolkit called BizMantra. It is available for free at www.bizmantra.org. Honorable Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Bharat Mohan Adhikari inaugurated the launch ceremony.

Mr. Anil Sinha, General Manager of SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) welcomed the guests and highlighted on the objectives of SEDF to help the SMEs of Nepal, Bhutan, South-East India and Bangladesh build their capacity. He stated that SEDF is proud to partner with Elite Networks in this project. He said that in the near future the contents of BizMantra will also be available in books and cds.

BizMantra targets startups and ongoing businesses which desire to excel. The objective of launching business toolkit in Nepal is to make the business sectors aware of the importance of proper documentation, information management, current market issues, human resource policies and legal requirement for the enterprises so that the business sectors are managed in a professional way.

BizMantra contains articles, forms, trainings, tools and resources on seven core categories necessary to carry on a business. The seven categories are: Business Planning, Legal and Insurance, Accounting and Finance, Human Resource, Marketing and Sales, Operations and Technology. With the help of this business toolkit they can be better managed, sustain the business growth, and focus on future.

Mr. Trishakti Joshi, Executive Director, Elite Networks, on his vote of thanks stressed that with Nepal’s accession to WTO on the need of the SMEs in Nepal to upgrade their managerial skills, their capacity to gather and manage information and use of modern technology, that enables to be more productive and competitive are even greater. He strongly believed the need of information among different enterprises in Nepal and pointed that BizMantra aims to achieve these processes.

Press Realase (21 Jul '04): A memorandum of understanding was signed on July 19, 2004 in Dhaka, Bangladesh in-between South Asia Enterprises Development Facility and Elite Networks and Communications Pvt. Ltd. to implement the SME-Toolkit Product in Nepal.

Elite Networks will be localizing the global content of SME-Toolkit to suit Nepalese context, culture, trends, rules and regulations. It will also be conducting number of promotional workshops in Nepal.
The South Asia SME Toolkit is a project of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Department of the World Bank Group and South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF).

SME Toolkit was initiated to promote local small business growth in developing nations by creating a powerful synergy and underscore a strategic commitment in improving lives by creating opportunities in small business.
